Your body is your ever present home on earth and houses a wealth of information you can tap into anytime. Yet no one teaches you how to use this innate somatic knowledge. The field of psychotherapy, especially trauma therapy, is In the midst of a mini revolution as somatic awareness is now recognized as a […]

The Struggle of Perfectionism

By Nicole Urdang | March 3, 2021
Posted in Addiction/OCD, Boundaries, Inner work

Doing things well is satisfying, but perfectionism can turn almost anything into a struggle. Every time you strive to be perfect, the best, or better than you were before, you put pressure on yourself. Not only does that pressure accrue, it robs you of joy. In addition, it’s almost impossible to be mindful and live […]

Covid and The Great Pause.

By Nicole Urdang | February 3, 2021
Posted in Covid, Journaling

If you’re lucky, and you know where your next meal is coming from, you have a safe place to sleep and your family is well, you can view this pandemic as an opportunity to practice what I’m calling The Great Pause. In many ways, the whole world is on pause. It feels radically different, yet […]

By Nicole Urdang | January 11, 2021
Posted in Anxiety, Overwhelm, Stress

One inescapable truth is things will not always go your way. Your landlord suddenly raises the rent, you lose your job, your body acts out with a strange new symptom, your child’s teacher asks for a meeting, the roof leaks, the car dies, you get the idea. No one singled you out for extra […]

Why Do People Lie To Their Therapist?

By Nicole Urdang | January 2, 2021
Posted in Therapy

Strange as it may sound, people are not always in touch with things that might seem very obvious to an impartial observer. I’m not talking about denial, a willful refutation of observable facts, but of obliviousness. Everyone has different levels of awareness, internally, externally and psychologically. It’s all too easy to assume someone is consciously […]

By Nicole Urdang | October 8, 2020
Posted in Anxiety, Stress

This is based on the book: The 6 Second Quieting Reflex by Dr. Charles Stroebel. It’s a super easy way to re-train your jaw so it automatically relaxes rather than tensing. The hard part is doing it constantly throughout your day until you have successfully changed your unconscious pattern. It also works marvelously for any […]

By Nicole Urdang | September 19, 2020
Posted in Covid, Loneliness

Loneliness is different from solitude. Solitude is something chosen while loneliness often feels foisted on you. The Covid pandemic has generated both solitude and loneliness for millions of people. How is Covid loneliness different from non-Covid loneliness?  If you’re an introvert, the social limitations Covid have imposed on your life might actually feel like a […]

Using Bach’s Rescue Remedy during COVID & for all stress, tension and anxiety.

By Nicole Urdang | July 14, 2020
Posted in Anxiety, Covid

I am not a medical doctor, nor am I advising anyone to take any medication without consulting their physician first. One of the most amazing legacies of homeopathy is a series of flower essence remedies that were developed by Dr. Edward Bach in England during the 1930’s. Dr. Bach believed that our unbalanced emotions can […]

The art of admitting fallibility.

By Nicole Urdang | July 8, 2020
Posted in Relationships

Whether we’re in the midst of a pandemic, political upheaval or merely the ups and downs of a normal day, there is something incredibly freeing about saying: I was wrong. I was mistaken. I didn’t understand. Every day, even if you’re not consciously paying attention, you are learning. Growing, learning, and being mistaken about things. […]
